Chapter 6
Hosting & Domains
The plumbing under a site, explained plainly: domain names, hosting, email at your own address, and what each costs after the first year.
Every site needs a domain name, rented by the year, and a host, which a builder includes and WordPress leaves to you. Both usually come with a first-year discount; the renewal price is what you pay after. Around them sit email at your own domain, the SSL certificate and DNS, the settings that point your name at your site.
For the whole bill, how much a website costs per year prices Squarespace, Wix, Shopify and WordPress line by line, in year one and once the first-year discounts end.
